Road Trip Part 2

Arguinigan is a bit better

quite nice we thought.....

Then we spotted this

dreadlock holiday??

Road Trip

Good job petrol is cheap here (about half the price of UK) cos the roads are so winding it takes about 10 miles to travel one!!
It's due to the topography - it's all mountainous and full of huge ravines, or barrancos in Spanish, which have to be negotiated. Hmmm, all very time consuming (and hair-raising!)

me up a mountain

don't look down!!

Maspalomas is where most of the package holiday types congregate....

me on Playa del Ingles with a million other tourists

holiday hell

think German, think beef jerky......aaaargh

Apparently this is the longest built up holiday 'strip' in all of Spain....

..........

kinky....

Advice on hiring a car in Gran Canary??? Don't bother. The roads are very very busy (I read somewhere that there is one car for every two souls on the island) and the scenery is over-rated. But then, once you've been to the Azores..........

You put your left foot in....

By popular demand.....

We've been leading a pretty quiet life here really. Just chillin....
My fringe was getting ridiculously long so I asked my mate to trim it for me (more austerity measures)

saved me thirty quid on salon prices!!
Had a job for three days (thanks Hils x) cleaning a superyacht. God it was hard work so decided to spend the money on myself. It paid for my bike, a new pair of trainers for the power walking and a hire car for three days to explore more of Gran Canaria (with enough left for a good slap-up lunch!)

this is the yacht wot we cleaned - big innit??
Anyway.

This is a Port-a-bote...

doesn't come with the cat by the way...
It belongs to Peter from 'Maid of Mettle' (good name eh??) and I covet it. He rows it everywhere and it goes like the wind. They fold up flat to 4 inches!!! So it's just like storing a surfboard. Unsinkable too.

Pleeeze can I come back on board now???

Been cycling every day since I got my bike. It does help that it's very flat here in Las Palmas. Lots of cycle lanes too.

Big northerly swell here for the last couple of days. Surfers heaven!
But today it was messy.

remember surfing here Joe?? :)

Coming soon.......Gran Canaria road trip!

Good Times......

Lazy Sunday

Well, the weather is back to its usual 25 degrees and all is well with our world

soaking up the rays

Scabby is happy we are back (I think!) and after some experimental nocturnal forays has decided that life on the boat is actually ok. And she gets a constant stream of callers coming round to play (the local kids)

TOP NEWS! I've got a bike....

on a bike ride
Sorry you can't actually see the bike in this picture (cos Mike took it!) but I have got one - honest.
Hopefully it will help my 'get fit' campaign - I'm also doing 'power walking' every other day with a couple of friends.

And after a nice bike ride there's nothing I like better than to relax in the cockpit and read a book...
on my new Kindle :)

prize to the first person the guess what the book is I'm reading!

Very impressive. Yes, the publicity is all true. This is the future of books methinks.....

Now, mum and dad here are some photos for you to try and tempt you to come and stay in Las Palmas. Remember we were telling you about where we stayed last year....?

back in Las Palmas

The journey back took a very long time.....

We left home at 5am and after 1 car, 2 trains, a bus, a plane and then another bus we arrived back at the boat at 6.30pm !!

Mike doing his best to try and look intelligent haha....

Scabby seemed pleased we were back though she has been royally looked after in our absence by Bryn and Beth from 'Cape'. Thanks guys xx

frowning

Mike started the journey feeling a bit rough and by the time we got back to the boat it had developed into something nasty. He spent all last night shivering and shaking and has been in bed all day with aches and pains, and I have been dosing him up. He's convinced he's got swine flu !

glad to get my flip-flops back on

I'm aching a bit too - but it's only from the horseriding :)
